The Labour group welcomes the announcement of a review by the Local Government Association (LGA) into the culture at Cheshire East Council that was announced on Thursday.
Well we would, given that we have been calling for such an independent review into the dysfunctional and bullying culture at Cheshire East Council for the past 6 months!
We hope that this will mark a change in the highly partisan approach taken by Conservative-controlled Cheshire East Council up until now. The review should be cross-party with all political groups involved in the review, including setting the terms of reference.
We hope that the review will be listened to, but the decision to press ahead with the Constitution re-write before the LGA has even reported back is worrying.
Cllr Sam Corcoran, Labour Councillor for Sandbach East & Heath said "In March 2017 the Labour called for an external review into the culture at Cheshire East Council. It is a shame it has taken 6 months for the Conservatives to act. Some of the damage caused to the Council's reputation in the last 6 months could have been avoided if they had acted sooner."
Cllr Laura Jeuda, Labour Councillor for Macclesfield South said, "I look forward to hearing the suggestions of the Local Government Association as to how the Council can improve the culture within the Council. If we can improve the culture and staff morale then that will provide knock-on effects to improve the delivery of services and the reputation of the Council."
