Cheshire East Care Scandal

Cheshire East Council has failed to increase their Care budget for over three years while the charges for residential care in its care homes have been increased by 5% each year over that time.  This has meant that an elderly resident, who has lived in a ‘council’ house all their life and has no savings is no longer able to afford to move into a care home without relatives paying upwards of £150 each week for the privilege.  What would happen to someone with relatives unable or unwilling to pay?   There are no homes in or around Alsager which could provide care for the basic amount that Cheshire East is willing to offer them.  This is an appalling situation for an elderly person to find themselves in.  It is little wonder that hospital beds are filling up with elderly patients waiting to be found accommodation.  But, of course, Cheshire East is not paying for those
