Comments on Cheshire East Strategic Plan

Firstly, I am pleased that Fiona Bruce has raised this issue in Parliament, making 2 important points.

1) definition of sustainability – I asked in July 2012 that this Council should have a working definition of sustainability. I am happy to work with officers on that.

2) an expert planning inspector will be available to assist Cheshire East Council in getting its Local Plan right

I was at the last Strategic Planning Board meeting when the Core Strategy was discussed and a theme that kept recurring and caused huge problems was the ‘Additional Sites’ consultation and the way it had been handled. You may think that any consultation will help, but you would be wrong. The additional sites consultation caused more problems than it solved and has led to this additional consultation being necessary. There is a real risk that if badly handled this consultation will not solve the problems caused by the previous consultation.
