Council forgets to set up its new company

Cheshire East Ltd

At the Cheshire East Council meeting on Thursday 10th April 2014, Labour Councillor Sam Corcoran asked about the new companies being set up by Cheshire East Council.

On 24th March, Cheshire East Council Cabinet resolved to set up “the wholly owned local authority parent company Cheshire East Ltd”. Cheshire East Ltd would act as a holding company for the service delivery companies set up by Cheshire East Council. According to Companies House records Cheshire East Ltd, company number 08957667 was formed the next day on 25 March 2014 …. but not by the Council.

It is understood that the Wilmslow man who set up Cheshire East Ltd has agreed to give the company to the Council, but, in the meantime, Cheshire East Council has formed Cheshire East Residents First Ltd to use

Labour Group Leader Cllr David Newton, said, “"You really couldn't make it up if you tried. It's just like pulling rabbits out of hats!”

Cllr Sam Corcoran, Labour Cllr for Sandbach Heath & East, said, “The problem at Lyme Green was that the council rushed ahead with a money saving idea, cut corners and fell flat on its face, costing the council over £1m. The lessons of Lyme Green have clearly not been learnt.”
