Even more skeletons lurking at the back of Cheshire East Council’s Cupboard?

What is the Record for the number of ongoing police investigations around one council?  There are now FIVE police investigations swirling around Conservative-controlled Cheshire East Council, but the Conservatives seem to be aiming for double figures!

1) An independent investigation by Bureau Veritas found evidence of deliberate and systematic

    manipulation of air quality data
2) £70,000 granted to a primary school in Wistaston, where (allegedly) a Conservative Councillor

    promised the money to the school despite it not being in accordance with policy

3) reports in the Crewe Chronicle of vile and intimidating hate mail sent to two dissident

    Conservative councillors.
4) Land acquisitions

5) The regional ORGANISED CRIME UNIT are investigating contracts awarded to the then

    Conservative Leader's personal physiotherapist's company - CoreFit.

Two further matters involving land transactions have been referred to the police recently, including one where a Cabinet member said in a council debate it 'won't cost the council a penny', when in fact it would cost the council £2.4M!

Now a further matter harking back to the Lyme Green fiasco has surfaced, where a senior officer was paid £45k to go with a gagging agreement, despite a Staffing committee having recommended that  individual’s dismissal for gross misconduct. It appears that the cabinet were aware of this, yet covered it up for over two years!

At a Council meeting in October 2017 there was laughter from the public gallery at Macclesfield Town Hall when Cllr Rachel Bailey (Con) said;

’This council is putting its house in order. This Conservative-led council is reaching to the back of the cupboard and it is dealing with matters openly and transparently. ‘  Cllr Bailey also stated at the  meeting of the full council. " I’m a woman so I like my cupboards tidy". (see attached)

Cllr Brian Roberts, Labour Councillor for Crewe West, said ‘One wonders what else is yet to be found at the 'back of the cupboard' to go along with covering up hush money payments to senior officers? Perhaps both the skeletons and Councillor Bailey’s Cabinet have both passed their respective ‘sell by’ dates with the residents of Cheshire East?’’

Cllr Nick Mannion, Labour Councillor for Macclesfield West & Ivy said ‘The credibility of this Conservative administration is shattered. Every time they promise that there are no more ‘legacy issues’ to deal with, yet another rotten stinking scandal emerges.’
