Lucy Powell MP, Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Education, commenting on the Opposition Day debate on the forced academisation of all primary and secondary schools, said:
“Again and again Conservative MPs made reasonable calls for the Secretary of State to abandon her plans to force all primary and secondary schools to become academies in multi-academy trusts. We share their concerns that this costly, top down reorganisation of our schools system will break the link with parents and local communities and divert attention away from raising standards.
"It’s absolutely clear that the government would not get the support for these proposals as they stand. They should hit the pause button and have a serious rethink.”
